A new job? My boss is going away and put me in charge, but I am looking for a new job...?

I may get a job interview while my boss is away - but if I am the one in charge, what do I do? I need to make more money and don't want to seem like I'm giving up on the company, but I have to move on...What to do before the boss leaves me in charge?

Tell him/her what you told us.

Let your boss know that you need more money.

Usually more responsibility means more money.

Maybe the boss plan to give you a raise along with the added responsibility.
Reply:Talk to your boss before he/she leaves and let them know the situation.

Perhaps they'll offer you a raise, if not then you need to let them know that you'll be away from work for interviews.

Best of luck!
Reply:Don't mention unless the new company makes you an offer that you really like.

Give your current employer enough notice to replace you.
Reply:How long is your boss away for? a few days, a few weeks?

Just schedule your interview very early in the morning or during your lunch break. Many employers understand that you already have a job and will work with you.
Reply:Be careful. With the economy in flux, you will want to be sure that you have a new job before quitting the old one. And, if your boss gets wind of your plans, you might find yourself without either job.
