I am a teenager and I am looking for a part-time job in Australia..where should I look?

Are you in the same situation or are you working somewhere? I was thinking of working at either Gloria Jeans, Blockbuster or Greater Union- what do these jobs involve and I have no training and am under 16, does that matter? Also, how much do they pay? And Blockbuster is casual, what does that mean?

That above answer couldn't be more wrong, obviously not an Australian.

Part-time and casual are much the same thing and are what you are looking for. More then likely you would only get casual employment as part time is rare and more for businesses then retail.

I've been through what your going through about 5yrs ago.

Casual means you have no set hours, no paid holidays but a higher pay rate, you could work 5hrs one week 15 the next. Part-time means you work a set number of hours per week and have the same rules as full-time but at reduced hours.

Gloria Jeans will most likely want experience and have a bad rep for keeping thier staff and are usually an older employee.

Blockbuster again is more for older uni students not teenagers.

Greater Union, don't employ under 16s and are the same as the above jobs.

Juniors (under 21) are paid by their age. So without know that I can't say. Most retail employees are covered by the shop employees award (http://www.industrialrelations.nsw.gov.a... but bigger stores such as big w, kmart, etc will have thier own award but will be close in payrate.

My suggestion would be to talk to friends and see where they work, also try McDonalds (known for employing school kids), Kmart, Coles, Big W, Toys R Us (have young staff), most fastfood places and your bigger retail stores will hire young staff. McDonalds would be my first try.

Good luck
Reply:hmm well in the US at least its hard to get in for jobs if you're under 16. if you're 14/15 here, its restaurants, pizza places, or family businesses of ppl you know, maybe grocery stores, that you can get into.

but 16 and up, the mall, retail stores, or blockbuster are pretty good jobs to have because you usually get to work with fun people and managers who aren't too demanding. training doesn't matter, the thing is just make a good impression on the interview, be yourself but be the best version of yourself. in these kinds of jobs they expect that people will come and go so if you stay longer than 6 months and show up all the time you will be appreciated!
Reply:Mel explained it pretty well.

I think Katie Ann must have been smoking the bleach before bleaching her hair. She could not be further from the truth.
Reply:causal means that its a laid back work enviornment, no suits and ties.

Look in your local paper for what's avail in your area. You could also try craigslist..... good luck...
