I had an accident at work about 10 years ago which resulted in a cash payout to myself.
I am looking to reapply to the same company and was wondering if they are able to refuse my application base on this?
Looking to apply for a job with a company I worked for previously?
I'd say your chances are doubtful.
Put it this way, if someone sued you, would you then lend them money afterwards (for example)? Probably not. Even if they were in the right when they sued you.
So, rather than go through the whole process, spending all that time and energy on the application, interviews, agencies etc, it would probably be better to apply elsewhere. There is nothing worse than spending all that energy to realise at the end that you never stood a chance in the first place.
Reply:Very few people stay in the company for 10 years. I don't know if you are going to list that company in your resume. If you do, they'll probably check it up. Until you apply, you may not know if they will hire you. In any case, all work accidents are covered by workmen compensation insurance. And if it is a big bad injury, they will not hold you against the claim. If it is a 'lame' injury that you could have settled for less, they then might. I can't tell from what you say here what kind of situation it is, to help you more.
Reply:The payout was probably from their insurance company, and the company have probably forgotten it now. After 10 years, you will probably be dealing with different people anyway. It will do no harm to apply and will only cost you a stamp.
Reply:Technically they can't...if you were a valuable employee then, there's no reason why they shouldn't employ you again...but they obviously don't have to. If you cost them money before, they may not be too happy about taking you on again...but they can't rely on that as the only reason not to employ you.
